Philip Sharp served Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975 to 1995 where he was a driving force in the development of major energy legislation and the Energy Policy Act of 1992. He also helped develop a critical part of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments, providing for a market-based emissions allowance trading system. Following, he had a lengthy career on the faculty of the John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Institute of Politics at Harvard University. He continues his dedication to energy efficiency and the environment as the President of Resources for the Future. The Forum presented him with its Energy Leadership Award in 1994. business, government and private sector organizations focused on energy and environmental technology, policy, finance and law. Currently, he is Director of Climate Change and Energy Initiatives for Google.org, bringing the worlds of information technology and clean energy closer together. As President Clinton’s Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the U.S.DOE, he spoke at the 2000 Forum and announced the first 20 companies to achieve the brand new ENERGY STAR Label for Buildings. He has been a consultant to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and a Visiting Fellow at the World Resources Institute. |
