James Schlesinger, Ph.D.

James SchlesingerJames R. Schlesinger was the nation's first Secretary of Energy, named in 1977 after helping then-President Jimmy Carter create the office and the National Energy Policy. In his many years of public service, he also served as Secretary of Defense, Director of Central Intelligence and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Dr. Schlesinger currently divides his time between MITRE, where he serves as Chairman of the Board, and Barclays Capital, where he serves as Senior Advisor. He spoke at the 1991 Energy Efficiency Forum. He is also a consultant to the Departments of Defense and State, and a member of the Defense Policy Board and the International Security Advisory Board.
